How to Calculate CGPA in National University Bangladesh

It is mandatory for all students enrolled in the National University (NU) to understand the officially approved grading scales by UGC Bangladesh.

This is a non-negotiable requirement for manual CGPA calculation to ensure that students are well-equipped to excel in their academic endeavours (struggle).

The NU official grading scale ranges from 0.00 to 4.00 to precisely calculate their Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Furthermore, these scales correlate with letter grades A+ through F.

The fundamental Principles for Calculating CGPA in Bangladesh involve a thorough understanding of the official grading scale used by NU, including

  • Marks (1 -100)
  • Grade Points (0.00 to 4.00)
  • Letter Grades {A+, A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, D, F}
  • Percentage Scores from 1% to 100%

A clear comprehension of these principles is essential for accurate manual computation of CGPA. Now, let’s explore how the National University of Bangladesh’s official grading system determines the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) step by step.

Mathematical Equation for CGPA Calculation at the National University of Bangladesh.

NU CGPA = {(Credit * GPA= Points Secured) / Total Credit}

For Exemplification of NU CGPA Calculation; –

  • Semester 1st (Credit 40 * GPA 4.0)
  • Semester 2nd – (Credit 33 * GPA 3.8)
  • Semester 3rd- (Credit 36 * GPA 3.9)
  • Semester 4th – (Credit 34 * GPA 3.8)

Points Secured = {40*4.0 + 33*3.8 + 36*3.9 + 34*3.8} = 555

Total Credit = {40 + 33 + 36 + 34} = 143

NU CGPA = 555 / 143 = 3.8

National University Bangladesh Grading System

National University (NU) has introduced a highly effective and meticulously structured University Grants Commission of Bangladesh-approved grading system based on semesters.

This grading system employs a straightforward 4.00-point scale from zero to four (0.00 – 4.00), ensuring a seamless connection between letter grades {A+ to F}.

  • Attaining a GPA of 4.00 represents the pinnacle (highest) of achievement, analogous (alike) to receiving an esteemed ‘A+’ letter grade (LG) and covering an impressive percentage span of 80% – 100%.
  • Conversely, an ‘F’ letter grade indicates a lack of success and carries a substantial GPA value of 0.00, reflecting a score below 40 percent.
  • In contrast, the ‘C’ grade holds an average NU grade point average (GPA) of 2.25, indicating that the candidate has completed the exam with an average percentage between 45% and 50%.
