Rutgers GPA Requirements

Rutgers University requires you to have a GPA of 3.73 and be in the top third of your high school class. It is necessary to have a mix of A and B grades, preferably with more A’s than B’s. Harder classes, such as AP or IB courses, can make up for a low GPA.

How do I calculate my GPA at Rutgers?

If you are an undergraduate, you can calculate your cumulative grade point average (GPA) by multiplying the grade you received in each course you took for credit (and to be included in the average) by the number of total credits you earned in the course.

Rutgers GPA Formula:

GPA = Sum of (Numerical Value Of Grade x Credits)/Total Credits

Example:

Biology II = A (4.0)*4

Biology Lab = B (3.0)*2

Chem 161 = C+ (2.5)*4

Psych 101 = B+ (3.5)*3

Calculus I = A (4.0)*4

Calculation:

Total Quality Points = (4.0*4) + (3.0*2) + (2.5*4) + (3.5*3) + (4.0*4) = 58.5

Total Credits = 4 + 2 + 4 + 3 + 4 = 17

GPA = 58.5/17 = 3.44

Therefore, 3.44 would be your GPA.

Rutgers Grading Policy

At Rutgers University, grades are used to express student performance clearly, which are represented as (A, B+, B, C+, C, D*, and F), which have numerical values of 4,3.5, 3,2.5, 2,1, and 0.0, respectively, and classify the students into outstanding, good, satisfactory, poor, and failing.

For example, grade “A’ with numerical equivalent value 4 represents “outstanding” students.

Grade “C” students with numerical values equivalent to “2” indicate satisfactory results of the students.
